Founder The Cheese Steak Shop



Founders Keith and Kathy Layton opened the first “The Cheese Steak Shop” in San Francisco in 1982. East coast transplants with a love for authentic cheese steaks, we’ve made it our mission to bring the real-deal, Philly-style sandwich to our new home in the Bay Area.

In early 2018, The Cheese Steak Shop was purchased by two foodservice professionals, Dana Huie and Tony Bendana, who combined have over 80 years of experience in all facets of of the industry.

For more than 40 years we have been committed to using high quality, fresh ingredients to make the best possible sandwiches. To keep it authentic, we even source specialty items like our Amoroso rolls and Tastykakes direct from Philadelphia bakeries!

All our shops make your sandwich fresh to order, any way you want it: “wit or witout ” onions, with white American or Provolone cheese, hot and/or sweet peppers, even using chicken or veggies in place of steak. No matter how you like it, The Cheese Steak Shop loves to serve it to you the “Real Philly” way.
